Under Sheriff Joseph A. Lisi
Joseph Lisi was appointed to the position of Oneida County Undersheriff in August of 2018. As Undersheriff Lisi is second in command of the Sheriff's Office and maintains the statutory authority to serve as the Sheriff in the Sheriff's absence. Previously he served as Chief Deputy of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center. As Chief he managed a staff of investigators from agencies such as the New York State Police, Utica Police Department and Rome Police Department. He works closely with the Oneida County District Attorney's Office and Oneida County Department of Social Service, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as well as contracted victim advocate groups.
Undersheriff Lisi is a native of Utica. He Graduated from Notre Dame High School in Utica in 1975. He earned his Associates Degree in 1977 from Mohawk Valley Community College, and his Bachelor's Degree in 1979, from SUNY Utica Rome. He joined the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Highway Patrol in 1980. He was promoted to investigator in 1987 and continued to in the criminal investigation unit for the remainder of his career, being promoted to Sgt. In 1994 and Lt. in 1997. Lisi retired in 2004, at which time he went to work for National Grid as a security investigator.
During his time with the Sheriff's Office the Undersheriff has received awards and citations such as; Educational Achievement (2 times), good conduct (5 times), Exceptional Service, Ready Commendation, Honorable Discharge, Promotion of Grade (3 times), Grand Cordon (4 times), Sheriff's Special Recognition, Life Saving, and Meritorious Service (4 times), American Legion Award 1988, Oneida County Police Coalition Award 1988 & 1992, NYS Assembly Award for Meritorious Service 2002.
The Undersheriff also serves as the Vice Chairman of the Oneida County Sheriff's Law Enforcement Association.
